Wendover Remembers

The ‘Wendover Remembers’ Wallhanging now has its final resting place in the library having been exhibited around various churches, schools and other locations since it was made in 2015.

The wallhanging was made possible in 2015 by members of a local sewing group, art club, local schools, churches, RAF Halton and Cherry Tree House Residential Home in commemoration of the men, women and children who suffered as a result of the Great War, 1914-18.

To accompany the wallhanging, a booklet has been produced for all those who made a contribution. This explains in detail how the quilt was made and who was involved. The booklet, produced by Wendover News and funded in the main by Wendover Parish Council is issued free of charge to those concerned, however the Friends of Wendover Library has also topped up this contribution to ensure that about 150 booklets will be available for the public to purchase with all contributions (minimum donation of £1) going to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

In addition a sign has been installed under the wallhanging which gives a brief explanation and credits the various groups involved. This cost of this sign has been donated to FOWL through yet another generous donation from Buckinghamshire Freemasons.

The sign was ‘unveiled’ on Friday 11th November when many of the members of the groups involved attended along with other Community and Council representatives.

The Wendover News website provides a good coverage of the event.

The booklets are available only from the library. Please hurry while stocks last. This is a piece of Wendover history that should be treasured.

We will continue to sell the booklets until supplies are exhausted and will hopefully be able to make a big boost to this year’s Poppy Appeal Fund through the efforts of all involved in the community!
