Friends of Wendover Library (FOWL)

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We greatly appreciate all our friends' support and it is invaluable in helping to maintain and improve this important community resource. It is for everyone, old and young. Now that the library has become a Community Library we have to try and find additional support as follows:

1.     Contributing your time

Library Volunteers are required to help Library Management in a number of duties including Counter Assistants, Bounce and Rhyme and other library calendar events where it may be that help with teas and coffees is all that is required. If you wish to help in the library as a counter assistant or other duties, please complete a volunteer form available in the Library entrance and hand your completed form in at the counter. A member of the Wendover Community Library Trust Committee (WCLTC) will then contact you to discuss.

2.     Contributing money and maybe your time - if you can spare it. Extra external funding is required to enhance the Library facilities. This is where FOWL comes in. FOWL is part of the Wendover Community Library Trust and is run by a separate committee comprising FOWL members and is responsible for coordinating fund-raising events.  Two members of WCLTC are represented to ensure co-ordination with overall library management. By joining FOWL you are helping, by annual subscription, to the enhancement of the library – thank you! If you have the time to help at FOWL fund-raising events that is a bonus for us. If you can spare an hour or two to help or have other fund-raising ideas and would like any further information on other events we are planning, please email fowlmembers@hotmail.com or ask at the library and a member of the FOWL committee will be in touch.

Please note that you are not required to be a library volunteer in order to join FOWL and vice-versa.

We are constantly looking for ways to increase membership in order to improve our financial base and long term stability.

You can help by becoming a member. It is easy to join and your donation will be put to good use enhancing the capabilities and programmes of your own community library.

We have teamed up with Virgin Money Giving which makes it easy to donate online. If you are a taxpayer and qualify for Gift Aid we get an extra 25% back from the taxman—that makes a big difference!

Here’s the link to our page (the home page is under test at the moment but the donation pages work!) or just search for Virgin Money Giving and on the home page you can donate to our charity:

Wendover Community Library Trust: Donate here

Every donation will be acknowledged and in doing so you will then be enrolled as a FOWL member as follows:

 Annual Single Membership £5.00

5 year Single Membership £20.00

Lifetime Patron £100.00

If you are already a member you can renew your subscription in the same way. You don’t need your membership number to donate and we take care of the paperwork, so you don’t have to worry.

What’s in it for you? Apart from the satisfaction of helping to keep our library open and at the heart of our community, you will receive regular emails on our activities including our newsletter, published throughout the year.

If you’re not online you can of course enrol/renew through our subscription forms available in the library.

EVENTS (all these and more are listed in our latest issue of our newsletter - Shelf Life - download below)

We hold an annual meeting each year which is open to all the community, not just members of FOWL. We will let you know when the next one is planned.

A copy of our Accounts for the year ended 31st March 2017 is available for download at the bottom of this page.

Our Film Nights (no membership required but please book at the library) are going from strength to strength but we would like more volunteers to help - if you can spare an evening please get in touch - see separate 'On Screen' page for details.

To keep you up to date, we also have a Noticeboard in the library entrance and this FOWL page. Just bookmark this page and check back for updates.

Copies of our newsletter 'Shelf Life' are available for download at the bottom of this page. If you would like to contribute please email fowlshelflife@btinternet.com.

More about FOWL

FOWL is part of the Wendover Community Library Trust (Charity) Committee (WCLTC), this Charity having been formed by local community volunteers seeking to ensure the maintenance of the village library facility.

The Wendover Community Library Trust has now been entered in the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1157773. This means that the committee members are legally obliged as Trustees to run the organisation in accordance with our charitable objects, which gives reassurance to donors and those dealing with us. It has financial benefits in that annual membership payments through our Friends membership subscriptions may now be treated as gift aid donations, so the taxman gives us another quarter as a tax rebate. It is a waste not to give him the opportunity to contribute in this way to help us enhance our library facilities! Also, when asking for your donations, subscriptions and sponsorships we hope that we can be taken more seriously in what we are trying to achieve with your help.

The Library is managed by professional staff assisted by trained community volunteers acting as counter assistants. Community volunteers also assist with other events associated with the Library and the whole functioning of the Library is overseen by an Executive Committee constituted of three Bucks County Council (BCC) senior staff personnel and three members of the WCLTC, each of whom is a community volunteer. See About Us page for further information.
