***Open-door sessions resume 28th July***

We are pleased to announce that, from Tuesday 28th July, open-door access to the library has resumed, initially for three sessions per week (Tue 2-5, Thu 2-5, Sat 10-1). Because of coronavirus, these sessions need to be run somewhat differently, with a limit on the number of customers present at one time, various other virus-prevention precautions, and some restrictions to the facilities offered. But it is in essence the conventional library experience!

In summary, this is what to expect
  • a limit on the number of people allowed in at one time - please wait for entry;
  • only one family group at a time in children's area;
  • returned books to be put in box by the door to be quarantined;
  • mandatory use of hand sanitiser on entry;
  • wearing of a face covering encouraged;
  • we will ask for contact details for NHS Test and Trace system;
  • public computer use restricted to half-an-hour, with wearing of face-covering mandatory, and only one terminal available.
We are extremely grateful for your understanding and co-operation with these necessary measures.

***But book delivery / collection service will continue***

Alongside the open-door sessions, we will continue to offer a delivery / collection service (details below), as an option for those who still would prefer to avoid visiting public places, or for whom our revised open-door hours are not convenient.

This is how the delivery / collection service works: If you live in and around Stokenchurch, Radnage, Lane End and Ibstone, borrowed items can be delivered and collected to / from your home, or, by arrangement, from outside the library.

To order books, or to arrange a collection of items you have finished with, you can let us know in one of the following ways: by e-mail (preferred) to enquiries.scl@gmail.com , by leaving a phone message on 07923 427314, or putting a note through our letter box. Please provide your name and a contact phone number (landline if possible) and someone will call you back.

If you give us an idea of what titles you want, we can make a selection for you, or we can discuss it over the phone, whatever suits you. Should you wish to see what items are available, you can use the advanced search facility on the Buckinghamshire Libraries catalogue (follow the links from www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/libraries/).

The reservations system across Buckinghamshire is now live again, so you can now make a reservation electronically (subject to the normal fee) and the book will find its way to Stokenchurch branch. Once it has arrived, you can contact us to arrange home delivery in the way described above if you are not comfortable with visiting the branch to collect it.

***Loan periods and overdue charges***

Because of the disruption caused by coronavirus, the loan periods of most books were centrally extended. However, as we gradually re-open, it is inevitable that some books will still be "late" coming back, and may accrue automated fines. Please don't worry about this, because we have discretion to waive any charges in such circumstances.

Also be aware that because of the quarantine process being used for returned items, these will continue to appear on your account for a few days - again, any overdue charges that arise as a result will, of course, be waived.

***Extensive e-resources also available***

Don't forget that Bucks Library members can also access a very extensive and ever-expanding range of e-resources.

Highlights, alongside the extensive range of e-books and e-audiobooks, are: access to 143 magazine titles; Newsreader which gives access to literally thousands of newspaper titles including some archival collections; and various on-line encyclopaedias. In addition (for a time-limited period, recently extended to the end of July) access is available from home to the Ancestries family history resource.

You do need to be a Bucks Library member to access these resources, and you will need your card details to log in; but even if you aren’t a member now, you can easily join on-line through a streamlined process.
